Franciscus Gasthuis & Vlietland goes mobile first with its internal communications

Hester Gras

Over the past few months, we’ve been busy building a beautiful internal news app for Franciscus Gasthuis & Vlietland, a Netherlands-based healthcare organisation resulting from the merger between Vlietland hospital in Schiedam and Sint Franciscus Hospital in Rotterdam. Since the hospitals merged in January 2015, there was an urgent need for a new internal communications tool to reach, inform and bring together 4,200 employees on five different locations.

Kirsten van der Worp, Marketing & Communications Advisor, Franciscus Gasthuis & Vlietland: “We sought to bring across our vision throughout the organisation. Our employees need to understand how our combined organisation is built up, get to know each other and receive background information about the merger, among other topics.”

With the app, the organisation also wants to reach more employees.

Kirsten van der Worp: “It is difficult to reach all of a hospital’s employees. For instance, some of our colleagues don’t read any news, they do not always have access to a computer at work to check the intranet and all of them work varying hours. Using tools the employees do have on them all the time, we are also able to reach employees when they are not at work. They can read the news just when and where it suits them!”

Read all about the app’s features in the showcase.
