Poor user interfaces cause many enterprise app failures

Hester Gras

The look and feel of a mobile app is crucial for a positive user experience. That’s why here at imgZine we put a lot of effort in the design of our apps. And rightly so, because research of app developer Kony shows that a poor user experience is the leading cause of enterprise mobile app failures. The survey focussed on enterprise mobility and involved 340 respondents from leading global brands. 50% of the respondents say their projects fail to lock or get approved because of user interface issues.

Approach

The reason for these issues is the traditional approach to mobile application development for enterprises. This causes friction and misalignment between developers and designers, according to the Kony survey (see graphic below).

Industries

The survey captured responses from participants across a range of industries with companies like Cisco, United Airlines, Walgreens, Qualcomm and Target.

According to the survey the biggest pain point between mobile app developers, designers and business users is changes to the user interface design. The majority of defects found in the app are directly related to the user interface and experience design.
